Hello,

When I try to access certain websites such as ebay or Facebook they either won't load or load very (very) slowly. whenever the loading process is hanging it says at the bottom of the page "include.ebaystatic.com" or "static.ak.facebook.com". I have ran multiple virus scanner, tried resetting the router, cleared my temp files, I have experimented with changing the MTU number... that doesnt seem to help. Any idea?

Thanks

which OS is running on your pc?
is it only these 2 websites you have this issue? is it sporadic or constantly?
do you have several ports open or listening ? type netstat -a and take a look
if you ping google.com and ping these websites (ebay, facebook) just compare the delay of time.
you can make a tracert as well.

let me know.

ciao

I have similar problems, but only in Firefox. I will constantly get stuck at static.ak.facebook.com or ebay pages, but they seem to work fine in IE7.

I tried stopping Adblock Plus, but that doesn't seem to help. I didn't have this problem a month ago.

yep, i have this problem too. i want to kno what it means when the the server has "static" in its name, coz ive realised it only hangs on these sites, and it only hangs wen it gets to a page that contains static in the link.
...thereofre, theres somehting incommon with these static-like servers, that isnt working for us.

any help?

If I ping google I get

But ping facebook and i get

Pinging www.facebook.com [69.63.176.140] with 32 bytes of data:

This all started happening after running a spyware removal thing which has screwed my computer up. What is happening?!!!

As an aside, I do not have this problem when running in safe mode so don't think it's an ISP problem or anything like that.

don't be selfish lol. this is driving me mad too! any support site i look at just says 'clear your cache' - hey thanks mozilla! you'd think they'd actually offer some support for this problem - it seems to be getting more common on a daily basis...

anyway, any clues as to The Fix?!

cheers

I've had this problem for weeks with ebay and facebook. I found a reference somewhere that suggested that ebay would hang at include.ebaystatic.com if the Java plug-in was out of date. I updated mine from the control panel, and ebay and facebook both work fine now. My Java didn't update automatically because I had disabled from startup with msconfig. Hope this helps - can't understand why there isn't more info about this on the web...........

Nice try baldeagle - didn't work for me though. I am guessing that the spyware removal program I ran deleted something that I need to reinstall. Trouble is working out what!

Akamai has suspended the offending data center and operations should be back to normal.

At some point last night, a bunch of Akamai's servers went down. Akamai is a content provider for a huge number of website, which means that they serve images, stylesheets, and JavaScript for those websites so that the website owners don't have to buy a lot of servers to serve it themselves. These websites include facebook, newegg, ebay, imdb, and others. Sometime on the night of Sep 15, a number of Akamai servers went down; however, they did not update DNS records for the domains that pointed to these servers, which resulted in sites becoming either completely unusable or just looking like crap.

this is SO frustrating; any minute now i'm heading for blank discs, backing up my files & reformatting... so annoying also that mozilla don't have a solution!

thanks anyway

ok i've seen firewalls mentioned a few times in various places across the web in relation to this & other problems, so i tried disabling my firewall (i have norton, which i hate but hey it was pre-installed...). anyway, once disabled i could access ebay; hey presto i thought. however i then tried facebook again, and it still didn't load!

in the end i just uninstalled norton completely from my pc & installed avg for anti-virus (i'll install a decent firewall v soon). ebay loaded fine; facebook also loaded - but only eventually (it took around 5 minutes i guess). however, ever since i allowed the sites to load fully (albeit VEEEEEERY slowly), i haven't had a problem.

so i wonder if something kind of got 'reset' (or even 'fixed' lol) just by letting the pc struggle through loading those sites?? does that sound feasible? well whatever, i work so until i don't again, i'm happy!

good luck to all with this problem; i hope you soon get the same relieved feeling i currently have. and if you're reading this from the mozilla offices - GET IT FIXED *slap*

Well... I'm not saying this will work for everyone, but it worked for me..

I noticed in msconfig that the system was opening a file called ifedtsco, and no matter what I did, it always opened it.. No idea what this file is.... So,

I loaded up my comp in safe mode and deleted it from where it was located... in Windows/System32 folder.. There was also some other files there with similar names... I deleted them all...

Loaded up my computer in normal mode, and ever since its been fine connecting to EVERY website.. I was so happy I'd finally sorted the problem.

I dont know what this ifedtsco file is.. ive google it and everything.., but obviously it was causing an issue somewhere..

I just hope something similar works for you guys..

I strongly suggest you open msconfig and see what you computer is loading on startup.

Any advice on what this ifedtsco file would help as it might help me avoid coming across it in the future!!

Cheers

Richard

I dont have that file in my sys32 and i tried stopping a similarly weird named file but it wasnt part of the problem as there hasnt been a change....

I went through a set of procedures, including the flushing of my DNS through CMD to get rid of all the things that might have cluttered my cache.

These three browsers dont work: Opera, Firefox and IE

all Windows XP SP2.

Any other suggestions?

I tried rebooting in safe-mode and working with browsers on websites such as Facebook and Ebay, which had previously been giving me problems during the "static" phase. They weren't acting up this time though. What does this mean!?

There will be some program loading that is causing an issue.

Try starting up your computer as normal and get up the Windows Task Manager (by pressing ctrl, alt and del) and see what programs your system loads up from the start....

There will be a program loading up (that it shouldnt) that is causing a problem.. And it will probably be located in System32 folder...

I think this is related to RunDll32.exe - does this appear in the process list of anybody else that's having a problem? I'm not sure it should.

Also, if I go to Windows/System32 directory, there are a multitude of files in there all around 90k ish in size with random file names (.dll). Looks odd and think this could be a virus/spyware problem. Anyone else seeing this?

Hey Guys

Yea I have those random Dll's and I have rundll32.exe in my MSCONFIG startup list

also, i run task manager ALWAYS on startup and ive noticed nothing different between the times before the not some websites phase.

Wait...i just checked my task manager and i have 2 identically named rundll32.exe processes running, oh dear..

also about safe mode...i can seem to connect to my internet in safe mode...as in my pc communicates with my external modem but i cant open the "app window" which allows me to click the "connect" button...

Hmmm..those two identical processes look mighty fishy...

one uses approx twice the mem of the other...but they both stay under 1KB

however, they arent SYSTEM processes..they belong to my user

....welll in response to Geedbuyer...i just recently "despywared" 500 or so threats from my sys32 folder...from way before i had any trouble..

anyway - if someone wouldnt mind inforiming my newbness onto how to connect to the internet in safe mode id be grateful....

(btw i suggest everyone does/tries a DNS flush because it workied in fixing my friends identical problem...)

Hotwire - sadly I'm not that good with computers either. Hope this doesn't sound patronising, but are you running Safe Mode with Networking? Also, I don't connect with an app window - if you go to Start -> Settings -> Network Connections, can you see your network connection in there and if so can you connect to it from there?
