Problem connecting certain websitesSolved/Closed

Question

Hello,

When I try to access certain websites such as ebay or Facebook they either won't load or load very (very) slowly. whenever the loading process is hanging it says at the bottom of the page "include.ebaystatic.com" or "static.ak.facebook.com". I have ran multiple virus scanner, tried resetting the router, cleared my temp files, I have experimented with changing the MTU number... that doesnt seem to help. Any idea?

For Firefox, give this a try:

Go to the Tools Menu -> Options
Under the Content Tab, click Advanced for Enable Javascript
Uncheck all items and click OK.
Close and restart Firefox.

This seems to have worked for me!

I have similar problems, but only in Firefox.  I will constantly get stuck at static.ak.facebook.com or ebay pages, but they seem to work fine in IE7.

I tried stopping Adblock Plus, but that doesn't seem to help.  I didn't have this problem a month ago.

Well... I'm not saying this will work for everyone, but it worked for me..

I noticed in msconfig that the system was opening a file called ifedtsco, and no matter what I did, it always opened it.. No idea what this file is.... So,

I loaded up my comp in safe mode and deleted it from where it was located... in Windows/System32 folder.. There was also some other files there with similar names... I deleted them all...

Loaded up my computer in normal mode, and ever since its been fine connecting to EVERY website.. I was so happy I'd finally sorted the problem.

I dont know what this ifedtsco file is.. ive google it and everything.., but obviously it was causing an issue somewhere..

I just hope something similar works for you guys.. 

I strongly suggest you open msconfig and see what you computer is loading on startup.

Any advice on what this ifedtsco file would help as it might help me avoid coming across it in the future!!

There will be some program loading that is causing an issue.

Try starting up your computer as normal and get up the Windows Task Manager (by pressing ctrl, alt and del) and see what programs your system loads up from the start....

There will be a program loading up (that it shouldnt) that is causing a problem.. And it will probably be located in System32 folder...

I have been having this problem on "Waiting for static.ak.facebook...." when connecting to certain router always and I've tried re-connecting to another network's router  and the problem seem to have disappeared. 
Going back to trying ro fix this problem, I have tried all the above methods posted and none of above seem to work for me .....
Finally I found the solution by running flushing the DNS Server .... You can try to do this by ipconfig /flushdns ......or by ipconfig /release and ipconfig /renew ......If all this still does not bear results, you may have fixed the DNS server addressess (could have been set to "Use the following DNS Sever addressess" ) and you may need to reconfigure this  by setting to obtain DNS Server address automatically from the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) settings in your local network connection settings.... It worked for me!

I've had the same problem, it started three days ago after some bogus spyware removal program installed on my computer.... but I just fixed it by doing the same thing the guy above said he did. I restarted in safe mode, and deleted some files I thought were sketchy... personally I knew these files were wrong because I have a habit of scanning my active tasks, and I found the files omoflav.dll and pwnxbdas.dll in my system 32 file and deleted them and unchecked them from my startup. this worked for me, hopefully it might help someone else.

I had the same issue and solved it today. 
Check if you have the file dksfgepw.dll in the directory C:\windows\system32. If so, boot your computer from an alternative device like a BART PE- CD (Windows XP on CD) and delete it.

You can find also a registry entry in HKLM...run, which starts the DLL via rundll32.exe. Once started, you will not be able to remove the registry entry and you cannot delete the DLL. I think the DLL is part of a malware scanner.

I also used the spybot search and destroy tool, https://www.safer-networking.org/ and found that I had a "virtumonde.dll" virus. Deleted it and now no more problems. However here's where I need some more assistance. The spybot also claimed that other dll's were infected. To be specific they were:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\qcwlsdfy.dll
and
C:\WINDOWS\system32\dvklnuwa.dll

Everytime I startup windows it gives me an error message saying "couldn't run **.dll". I've looked online at .dll download sites and am unable to find these particular dll's. Any help would be much appreciated.

POSSIBLE FIX!

I had the problem loading the Facebook Homepage in Firefox (but Internet Explorer worked just fine).  After trying some of the previous suggestions to no avail, I went and manually deleted the FF cookies for facebook.com.
This immediately fixed the problem, and not only that, the facebook pages loaded quicker than they ever have.

Also, please do not delete any .dll files, system32 files, or system startup processes unless you really know what you're doing.  This can cause major problems.  Always perform a system backup or manually save copies of system files before you try deleting them.

I've been having some pretty serious connection problems to facebook as well on Firefox and IE7 for the last few days. Probably about 50% of the time will get "The connection has timed out" or "The page cannot be displayed". No other pages I normally visit have exhibited the problem. 

I've attempted several of the recommended solutions in here such as deleting everything under:
C:\Documents and Settings\[user]\Local Settings\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\ also running spyware tools etc, all to no avail.

I also downloaded the latest Flash and Java SE but they've had no noticeable impact. I regularly use my computer on 3 different networks (my home network and 2 separate office networks) and I still get the same problems. As far as I know, other people in my region (Sweden) are not experiencing the same problems with the frequency I am but I'll test that more next week when I have another computer to work with.

I've had no significant configuration changes on my computer either. I've not installed nor uninstalled anything recently until today with Flash and Java. 

Are any other people still having this problem, because it's certainly not solved for me.

Spybot Search and Destroy worked for me also. I almost cried tears of joy because it was getting really frustrating, especially since I don't anything about complex computers issues. Now, Amazon and eBay work like they're supposed to.

maybe it is due to your connection! It happened to me once and it was because of my connection.. OR maybe it is because they temporarily blocked the access to certain areas? Due to maintenance? Maybe it is because of that..

I fixed this problem by running the Microsoft Malicious software removal tool.

Those DLLs in the System32 folder are the problem. They are always names with a random 8 characters though, so you will never be able to find the exact ones mentioned by others. If you go into the directory and order by date with most recent first, and see lots of these with what looks like random letters (all about 80k or so in size) then this is the problem.

No point deleting them on your own as more will just come back - run the removal tool and that should sort you out.

There are several variant symptoms of this infection. They can come from Vundo or Virtumonde and other relatives. 
Some of the main symptoms include: 
1. Loss of connectivity to certain websites while others remain unaffected
2. PC slows way down, in some cases on step processors you may find that it has "stepped" down to the battery saving speed
3. Pop up ads start coming up like crazy. 
4. Windows update website comes up as a blank white page
5. If you try to search for or download Spybot S&D it hangs
6. It produces random dll files that start up with Windows in msconfig
7. It can keep you from connecting to a wireless network
8. Internet Explorer can lose all the tool bars and menu bars on top

I've had success on several different pcs now by using a variety of methods.
1. Use Disk Cleanup to get rid of all unnecessary files except backup installation files
2. Delete all Temp and Temporary Internet Files (Especially the ones hidden in Local Settings in each Profile)
3. Uninstall all Antivirus and Antispyware programs... ALL OF THEM! (They are obviously corrupted or bogus at this stage of the game)
4. Download, Install and Scan using the "Boot Scan" in "Avast 4 Professional" (avast.com $40 per year, The Free Home version won't let you schedule that scan) You may have to use another pc to download and then install from another media like a flash drive or burned cd
5. Download, Install and Run "Spybot S&D" (Donate $10 bucks for crying out loud!)
6. Set them both for automatic updates and Automatic Scanning at least once a week
7. In msconfig, uncheck dlls that use Rundll32 (They are always random letters and numbers)
8. Redo Delete and Scan steps above as needed since the pc can be reinfected during the process
9. Download and Install all Critical Updates from Windows Update page 

This infection is not for the faint of heart. It takes 3 to 6 hours to do this process. If you need basic instructions on any of the steps above, you can find help in many places on the internet.

The key factor here for prevention is to make certain you are using a LEGITIMATE Antivirus and Antispyware program and you keep it updated and scanned on a weekly basis. Don't install the Popups! I like Avast 4 Pro and Spybot S&D in combination. I've been using this tandem for the last 2 years on over 50 pcs. NONE of them have had this infection!

Same problem for me and at least two friends in Stellenbosch. Can't access facebook, bbc news and some yahoo related sites. The pages just keep on loading, but oddly enough if I press 'View Source' I can see the page's fully loaded source code and when I disconnect my network (while the pages say they are still loading) they finally get displayed (although not always correctly).

I have problem where I can't connect to dell.com on the 2 pc's in my apartment. So far only that site I noticed. It was doing it to myspace but after I reset router and modem it worked again. So far nothing has fixed the dell.com problem.

well I found this problem on my computer yesterday morning and
spent the last two days examining file after file to find my problem
here's what I did:
1: ran spybot to check for virus
2: pulled up msconfig out of run under the start menu
3: found the .dll start up files that were affecting my computer and made note of the name (dllgfuhkjdl.dll)
4: went to C:WINDOWS\system32
5: changed file extension on virus from .dll to .old
6: rebooted the computer
7: found files again and deleted

and ever since it has worked like a charm!

Well I've solved my problem so am posting the solution on here in case it works for others...

I took my PC to a shop and he fiddled with it for 3 days and couldn't find anything wrong!

So I took it home and have found out it's a problem with my router.   I'm not techinical enough to troubleshoot it but when I swapped my EDIMax router for my old Belkin one the problem went away and I could get into Facebook.

Weirdly, when my son also tried to get into Facebook the problem came back and I had to turn off and on the router and start again.   It then went back in again on my PC.

So for the time being we're only using Facebook on my PC to see if that works in the short term.

I've solved my problem by using a different router, and now can't be bothered to try anything else, but I was talking to the owner of a PC repair shop and he said that it could be the MUT setting on the modem/router.    Things have changed on the internet and they used to be set to 1500 but should now be set to 1454.

Not sure if this'll help anyone but it's worth a try!

Hi! Had the same problems and it drove me mad..until I changed the TCP/IP settings in the Local connection properties. Instead of letting the system obtain DNS adress automatically, I entered 208.67.222.222 as preferred server, 208.67.220.220 as alternate. Then restarted computer and router, everything ok.
PS: when using Bitdefender 2009, you have to turn game mode on to access certain pages such as eBay..

I FINALLY have ONE solution to this damnest problem! Maybe someone has already given you an answer but since it is such a frustrating problem here is what I did and what my problem was: Shockwave flash object. Once I inactivated this bugger I couldn't view any flashy banners but everything else on the websites were running very smoothly. Every single website that I have former had a problem with runs smoothly. So that's what you might do. 
The Swedish words are different from the English but I'll do my best to explain: In IE window click on 1. Tools, then choose 2. Handle applications (or whatever the English words are for it), 3. Activate or inactivate applications. 4. Choose in the scroll-list the applications that at the present are being used and finally 5. Find the Shockwave Flash object and Inactivate it! 
It's not the greatest solution but at least it works. Unfortunately you can't view the flash things but so what?

I had the same problem on IE7, Firefox 3 and Opera (last version). I can not connect to ebay, hotmail, google from any of those browsers  (by the way Safari was working well), more - upload speed (speakeasy.net ) on those browsers was around 15 kbps - on Safari it was more than 400 kbps.
I found  file in C:\windows\System32\ATSEHWLK.DLL, which was running from registry .After deleting this f... DLL everything was solved.

Hello, I had the same problem, even google hanging on search sometime. I downloaded the latest versions of Java and of Adbe Flash and upgraded my IE to IE7 and installed the latest Windows upgrades...and uninstalled Firefox Finally found it is Virtumonde, a Trojan Horse.  Spybot S&D was the only antimalware program that found it.  It can also delete it BUT...after every computer reboot, Virumonde (Vundo) is back.  Apparently one not only has to delete it but clean the dll's.  Anyone knows how to do this?

Yes I am having the same problem it was  trojan that started it. I have Nortans and it detected it and deleated it but ever since I have not been able to load yahoo,hotmail,myspace,or facebook. But almost all other sites.. I have tried checking and unchecking all the options that people have posted on here and none of them work for me. I have a updated version of firefox and IE. And so far nothing has worked.. Anyone have any other Ideas??

The Trojan horse bothering me wasVirtumonde (Vundo).  There is a lot written about it already. Spybot S&D can find it and delete it.  So, use Spybot to delete it from your system. BUT that is not a permanent solution as the dll's are still in my startup. How to get rid of this Trojan completely?

This worked for me...
I had exactly the same problem and it drove nuts!
Dis-connected my router re-loaded Firefox, scanned for viruses yada yada yada etc.
I tried everything suggested and nothing worked.
I knew it was something interfering in the start-up so I used
CCleaner, (Crap Cleaner) went to tools selected start-up and there she was!
A dll that a search on Google could not find.
I couldn't delete it till I went into the safe mode.
This some of a Bitch squatter hides in windows\system 32.
 It goes by the name of lyljvdgo.dll
There's no description of it in any search engine I tried.
What gave it away, was when my mouse passed over it and it showed the date it was installed.
Right after that date my "Facebook" would not load.
I believe that dll comes from a crack I tried cause right after, Facebook wouldn't load no more.
Like I said, removed it in safe mode and all is well now...

Back to normal and all's working just fine!
This like I said drove me nuts and took a lot of patients and a few beers..
You'll notice with this problem that some other programs like Google start up a lot slower
and might even hang-up after a few searches.
That is a pretty good indicator that you're infected. ( I don't mean with crabs!) 
When you use CCleaner (Crap Cleaner and go to Tools, Start-up, you will see
what dll's and things that actually are part of the start-up process.
Punch the name of the dll into a search engine and if it come back with no results,
chances are you've found the sucker that;'s causing your problem..
These type of dll's don't show up as a virus even with a deep virus scan or with any other
add-ware or spy-ware programs.
Re-loading Windows won't help, but using a baseball bat on that dll's creator should have the 
pleasing effect and cure we're all after...
My bat awaits the creator of these type of dll's.

My son said he hadn't been able to get onto myspace for a while (doesn't connect) and I had noticed not being able to connect to a couple of sites (can't remember names). He couldn't get onto myspace from any of our three computers, all running different browsers/operating systems.  Problems with the host file and/or internet settings on all three computers wouldn't make sense so I rebooted the DSL box and everything is fine.

Hey Paul and to everyone else having this problem.

I am not using the pc anymore, I am using a laptop now.
One thing I noticed before moving on to a laptop.

This thing is caused by adware/malware cookie. Its done through your cookies by all these advertisers and it infects your browser.

Because I noticed, if you go to a website such as www.xbox.com, there is a small box made of flash for displaying microsoft's advert, now that cookie virus/advert virus will take over the box and advertise it's own advert. This applies to every other website that have their own box for displaying adverts instead that virus will take over that box and display it's own third party advert. You can immediately tell by the border overlaying and if you visit site such as xbox.com it will display adult advert which is stupid:/


I said to h-ll with FireFox and I went back and installed maxthon. Everything ran FINE! No white pages when loading facebook and rest of the sites and no fake adverts! I noticed that, that virus must have infected my IE and FireFox.



I went to a forum and found a solution, its this program called ATF-Cleaner. I give proper ratings to the guy that made this software named Atribune. You don't have to install ANYTHING!, its an .exe extension file, just add it to your desktop and it works. What it does is: it completely removes all unnecessary files from your History, Prefetct, Windows Temp, Java Cache, Cookies etc. Basically it removes all internet files you do not need.
You have the option to tick the boxes so if you don't want to remove files in your Temp Internet Files, just untick and tick the rest you need to be removed.


I have tried many times to remove the cookie virus that kept advertising on websites, because I found where the location is. Everytime I remove the cookie, it instantly comes back!
When I used this software, it completely removed everything for me! It even saved me 1gb space! Meaning I browsed so much websites it took 1gb space.
Also the program will help remove unused internet files for FireFox and Opera!



I am sure this program will help you solve the problem!

It's due to a virus or spyware or something! I realised I had the virus that did this but just couldnt get rid of it! and I can click on links in websites but cant go on any other sites at all, it just didnt connect! and its basically alot of randomly named files like sxun4ins, etc etc.

I would like to suggest a couple of possible causes of this phenomenon.  Please pardon the long-winded response.  I hope I'm not significantly rehashing other responses.

I've been fighting with sites that load slowly or time out entirely for months.  I first noticed it with eBay and PayPal in February 2008.  As near as I can tell, something changed in the way these sites were served/hosted around that time.  I tried to get them to investigate it, but they said it must be just me.  After much investigation, I discovered it was an issue with my firewall, or more accurately, with the systematic bombardment of my firewall: for every static file downloaded from Akamai - a major hosting service - an attempt is made to breach the firewall.  The intent of this, as far as I can tell, is a load-balancing measure; in an effort to see which server responds fastest, it wil send a packet of data to the user's computer from each of it's servers and see which one bounces back quickest.  The trouble is, with a firewall, the packet doesn't bounce - it sticks, intercepted by the firewall - and when nothing comes back, Akamai will continuously make attempt after attempt instead of simply choosing a server at random (or by some other criteria).  Norton Personal Firewall views these as "suspicious activity" and won't let them through, nor will it dignify them with a response.  Presumably other firewalls will react similarly.  The end result: any site with Akamai hosting (eBay, PayPal, YouTube, HomeDepot, and the list goes on) will either load REALLY slowly (if only part of the static content eg images, secure content, etc. is hosted over multiple servers by Akamai) or time out entirely (if the whole site is hosted this way) as Akamai makes hundered if not thousands of attempts to breach the firewall for a single page download.  As examples, using my high-speed connection, an eBay login takes over 25 minutes, PayPal login is virually impossible (because the login times out before I can reach the next screen), and YouTube videos never load.  

It should be possible to make adjustments to the firewall to compensate.  The sad fact is, the behaviour is unpredictable from a firewall perspective, making the adjustments nearly impossible, not to mention ill-advised.  Since the bombardment rotates through sequential ports, all of them outside of the regularly used range, there is no way to open a specific port to them.  You could create a gap in the firewall for all Akamai IP addresses, but that's a pretty big vulnerability, and (as I have discovered) not entirely effective.   If you're really desparate, you can always drop the firewall momentarily and make an attempt, raising it again as soon as possible, but given the amount of spyware out there, you might as well dump the firewall entirely and open yourself up to invasion!

I'm still investigating to see if I can find a better client-side solution.  The only true permanent solution I can see to the problem is to pressure Akamai to change the way they do server load balancing.  If they just used a standard ping, and did it ONCE PER SERVER, imagine how much faster things would run.  Even if they could write a subroutine to handle lack of response (eg: just pick the least active server, regardless of distance), then things would run far more smoothly.

And this is only one potential explanation of the problem.  Another issue could be your service provider.  Several are intentionally slowing down internet activity to services they view as competitors.  This approach is being used by Bell, Comcast, and others.  This is a grey area with regards to legality, and is under review by the CRTC in Canada (not sure where this stands in the US or elsewhere).  Until the legality of this scheme is decided, be prepared to face internet bottlenecks as a result.  If this is the cause of your problem, I can only encourage you to petition your service provider and any relevant legislative body for change.

wow, I had this problem on a friends computer that I was trying to fix for him. I pulled off hundreds of virus/trojans/etc. with avg.  still finding more 'pop up cookies' on every scan..  but I couldnt access several popular sites using any browser on his computer. facebook, myspace, ebay, hotmail.. to name a few. the bar would load half-way and hang.  I loaded up the msconfig and found the 2 identical .dll processes running, disabled them, and rebooted.. worked fine, went in and deleted the dll files out of the system32 folder they said they were located in, (i forget what the file was called.. something like 'pqtxcm.dll'.  I'd a never figured it out without some of the advice in here. thanks to those who helped, yet to lazy to go back and look to mention names. sorry!

I had this problem for two days now, I fixed it by going to Control Panel / Network Connections / Wireless Network connections / 

Click Properties: 
Scroll down to Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) click Properties 
I ticked Obtain an IP address automatically as well as Obtain Dns Server address automatically.

I solved the problem by deleting all the files from my temp dir.

c:\Documents and Settings\Eigenaar\Local Settings\Temp

There was an exe file I had to kill using taskmanager and then it worked.

i had the same problem for hours and I was getting so upset. then I decided to look at my peer guardian and it was blocking http! so if you have peer guardian 2, open it and make sure that it is not blocking http. I feel like a complete idiot now lol

I've had this ebaystatic.com problem for a while but I never figured out how to get around it.  Now currently I'm running firefox 3.0.3.  Last night I went to tools->options->privacy->exceptions.  Then I put in ebaystatic.com and hit block.  Now ebay doesn't hang on me.  Anyone know what this cookie does for ebaystatic.com?

not sure if this is it but I removed java runtime completely and seems to be working so far. also increased size of cache and always clear it on closing. amazon.com was my trouble hope it keeps working. mea culpa maxima mea culpa

I had the same problem, did most everything suggested here - Spybot found several viruses / trojans.  I took the machine to a friends house to have him help me with it and amazingly, I connected to the sites I could not get to (google, gmail, facebook) right away from his location.  He has a cox internet connection with a download speed of 25 mbps.  I tested my download speed from his location and it was horrible - about 250 kbps.  He came up with the idea that the virus may have corrupted my network interface card driver.  I have a broadcom nic, so I went to broadcom and downloaded a more recent version of the driver.  Installed it and was able to connect right away all the sites I could not get to before.

Have you looked at your "host" file found in your "C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc" directory to see if you are being excluded from going to these sites. It will list the sites and have some kind of exclusion term in the line. 
   I'm having the same problem as you but only AVG's website on only one laptop pc. I happen after I down graded from XP SP3 which was giving me speed problems on Win XP. If you look into the "host" file you just have to put a "#" in front of the line of text to REM out the line. If you don't see the sites affected in the file then this isn't your problem. But if you recently like me did a down grade from XP SP3 to SP2 on say for ex. a HP OEM build of XP then I would like to know. Thanks

Hi, I solved my problem a bit.  I used Firefox, Menu>Tools>Options>Advanced and unchecked everything then hit OK>unchecked Enable JavaScript and Enable Java then hit OK. Works fine now but I can't post messages, but that's because I'm in a Flux Community, a real time website or something. Anyway, check out what I mentioned above. I've been going crazy for about 2 weeks now because of this.

Okay, for some reason, I was using Firefox and Avast updated. When I went to PCDMusic (the site which also hangs on 'static'), it worked like crazy LOL! It's like nothing ever occurred before! I had Enable Java and JavaScript checked! I don't know what Avast did. Virus database update or something.

I looks like a DNS issue.
Let me know your DNS setting on Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties.
If it's in automatic then will have to force one.
