i m not able to downgrade windows to xp on compaq cq 40 /425tu. hw is it possible ?

You will need to wipe the hard disk clean before XP will install. You might also have SATA problems since XP does not have drivers for the latest SATA controllers.

Google "killdisk" for software to wipe the disk.
