Help installation of printer

Hello,
I got this hp printer and scanner for my toshiba laptop. The installation went well but when it came to the point where it said plug in usb cord, I did but it didn't detect it. Nuthin happend, the box that said click here if not detected and continue installing wouldn't let me move on. Please help, im getting frustrated and tired and I don't wanna spend any more money on this.

hi friend try to check and scand with updated anti-virus in your hard drive... maby some trojan inside...
and if you already scand ill send you the driver. ok!

it did say something wouldnt let it go through but that disappeared i guess afterwards because it later let it go through i think, im new at this so i dont know what im doin. is it the usb cord could i have gotten the wrong one i mean its universal right? i dont know it would be nice if u could send that maybe it would help, like i said it already had 94% dowloaded it just needed the rest.
