If your license key is valid then you bought a copy of Avira. You would get a much quicker and more concise response from their support team

First download the update here

http://avira.fwebpages.com/avira-offline-updates/avira-offline-updates-2009-06-01/

Open AVIRA main window, select "Update"
Then "Manual Update" and open the downloaded .ZIP file.
And Its done.

Hi! :)

I had the same problem but I've just found the answer.

You have to reinstall it but type your name and e-mail and select the thing that says something like "register to free... user ..."

It worked here ;)

Same problem here. The free edition also provides a license. I am running WinXP SP 3
I had the version 8 installed and had no problems. Becuz I kept getting the nag popups to update to version 9 I did so, but it just won't update. I am running my account as a power user. Meaning I can install everything except programs that need to access my /windows/system or /system32 directories. I searched Google for answers but haven't come across a satisfying solution so far.

I also had the same problem but I have tried downloading the file and reinstallation of setup file again. I will suggest you to download from the following site and let me know what problem you are getting:

Just download free update from http://www.avira.com/en/support/vdf_update.html

It solves my problem. I heard the avira servers are overloaded, but I personally believe that the update program has some bugs.

The problems I mentioned earlier were gone. Even after the major update that gave a lotta people problems I had no problems with avira updating. However, after last patch tuesday (13th of October) by M$ for Windows (which I updated on the 14th), Avira doesn't seem to automatically update anymore. I had to dl and manually install updates today. Since I run as a Power User, I have to switch to my Admin account to do this. I don't feel like doing this every damn day. :-/
Here's a part of my update error log:

When I use any of the IP's mentioned here paste in a browser to go to those IP's, they won't load either and they time out after a certain amount of time. My HOSTS file is not the issue, as it hasn't been altered in any way to my knowledge. Anybody got an idea?
