I had the same the issue due to my ipod. the problem that i think is with you is that you may have done something. To get your ipod on again hook it to the computer (USB cord) and re format it. that means you would have to clean your drive completely.. dont worry!!! then you need to put songs all over again...

Yeaaa, see you just hold the menu button and the center button at the same time for at least thirty-seconds, if a screen with an apple on it doesn't pop-up, then I can't help you sorry. I would Suggest you bring it in, but the solution I'm giving you seems to always work. This happened to me twice.

I thought my iPod was toast because I couldn't get it to unlock and my computer was saying it was corrupted - but I tried this and it worked!! Thank you so much!! Without this advice I probably would have ended up replacing it (and mine's not under warranty anymore) so you just saved a poor student enough to buy another textbook this year haha. Anyways. Hi if your ipod is an ipod touch the same thing happend to my friend but that was because he got water into the system and the battery would not hold the charge
if you did nothing against the warranty go to apple support on the website
and arrange a appointment at local apple store
did you drop ypur ipod or do any thing ab normal?

Hi, I actually did drop my iPod touch in water and i got everything to work except the battery refuses to hold a charge. The only thing powerful enough to give it enough power to turn on is my iHome - the problem is that i jailbroke my iPod. I plan to take it into the apple store and see what they can do, but i want to restore my iPod so that I can un-jailbreak it. Since my computer wont give it enough juice to power up, I don't know how I'm going to restore it. Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

I actually am having the same issue and connot seem to figure out why it will not power on. I am in the process of downloading the latest iTunes to my laptop. My nano(product)red will on show the apple screen when it is plugged in to my USB port and the screen is like digital, almost like gameboy screen you know? It will not light up with the normal apple screen. If anyone knows why this is please let me know and if I get it to work by re-formating it with the new software I'll be sure to post what exactly I had to do.

I had the exact same thing happen to me. It was quite upsetting, especially after just been given it as a present. I googled it, this it what i found and it works!!!

Checklist to see if your iPod needs a reboot:

. Your iPod is charged.

*If not, you might have to plug in your iPod, and make sure the computer can't go to sleep while it's charging. The iPod won't charge if the iPod is locked, so no orange.

Charging your iPod problem solution, that also works.

* Your iPod might need to completely drain in battery source before you can charge it. If that's the case, leave the iPod unplugged for 24 hours before trying to charge it. That will make sure the power is drained and your iPod is ready to be charged.

2. Your iPod is unlocked. Slide the button back and fourth a couple of times, just to make sure it's working.

3. And your iPod still has a black screen, frozen logo, or white screen.

Rebooting your iPod.

1. Run a cold boot (shut your computer down, then turn it back on) on your computer. * If your iPod crashed because of the software freezing, or the computer crashed.

2. Open your Apple Software.

3. Plug in your iPod. Make sure that you plug in your iPod into your computer, and that the plugs are secure. Your computer should detect your iPod, black screen or not.

4. Set down the iPod. Take your iPod and put it on a flat surface.

5. Press firmly. Take your fingers, and firmly press the middle button, and the menu button. It will read menu on the top button of the click wheel, and the center circle of your click wheel is what your looking for.

* Make sure your fingers are planted on the top of the center button, close to the menu button, and you are pressing it together.

6. Count to 8.

Now you should see an Apple logo pop up on your iPod screen.

Sometimes you need to try it a few times, to get it to work.

It should be synchronizing and happily you should be on your way.

*You also can reboot your iPod without it being plugged into the computer, I always do mine while it's plugged in.

I had to erease all the dta on mines and put the music and everything back on, im actually typing it now whilst its doing it, so pleased i found this! It all back to normal now :D:D:D:D:D:D

HI my ipod is a nano yellow 16gb 4th gen and i think i may have slept on it anyway it now has this wierd condesation under the screen and it will not reset or charge or turn on this happened to me when i was on holiday in india but for no reason i left it for 24 hours and it worked but with low battery no explenation though ipods are odd like that
so i am now going to wait 24 hours and see although i was wondering do you think the condensation has ruined the ipod i think some air may have got in to it i left it for 30 mins it had gone but now when i press the menu and the center button the screen gets condensation so i think i will just leave it for a couple of days and if that doesn't work i will take it in to a apple store as it is only 6 months old

Hi very sorry for late reply um i got some help from apple.com on reseting an ipod touch so this should work

turn off iPod touch and turn it on again. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button on top of iPod touch for a few seconds until a red slider appears, and then drag the slider. Then press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.

i think that will solve all your problems just like reseting ipod nano
if all that did not work try updating itunes to 8.2 sometimes that works
but the above solution will work

bye.

As the original post stated ; "I haven't turned my i pod on in a while, now it won't turn on at all."
I know that a few may contend to this fact, but the average life expectancy of a well used nano 2nd battery is one to two years before it has to be replaced. You may have noticed that over time your ipod play time has become shorter as your battery holds less of a charge. Or, in this case, you haven't used your ipod in a long while, it won't turn on or take a charge. If you don't use your ipod for a while (especially without charging it before storage) the cells within the battery take on a "memory" or have already began to break down. I have made a small fortune buying ipods on ebay, repairing them, and then reselling them. Sure, the occasional click wheel or hard drive failure may happen. However, 72% percent of the time when the screen doesn't light up, there is not enough juice in the battery. Whether you have a persistent dark Apple icon or a brief bright sad face, it's better to start with the cheapest and easiest thing to fix, the battery. I have had both these icons pop up as well as the weird gameboy effects or no screen activity at all. The battery was the culprit, except for one instance when the screen actually worked on one, but the back light was shot. With a little "know-how", you can go on ebay, buy a decent OEM spec battery for less then 10 bucks and replace it yourself. If you know your way around a soldering iron, this should be a cinch. If you do not know how to solder, its fun and a great skill to have. Youtube some soldering techniques and get busy!
