Hello,

Hoping someone can help:

My ASUS A6403KM notebook does not power up. When I turn the power on the lights come on for quick second and then automatically shuts down. Ive tried taking the battery out and then turning on same thing happens. Ive also tried taking battery out and mains and pressing power button 3 times (as per ASUS support center advice) and replugging in mains power and still same problem. ASUS service centre suggested montherboard needs complete removal (he is 99% sure did not open the laptop or anything! - very pricy this option). Im hoping someone can offer some alternative advice on what they believe the cause is or how I can reticify the problem.

Thanks

Sarah

I had the same thing occur with my Acer 5520 Notebook. The green charge light was on but when I pushed the power switch nothing happened. I did some research on the internet and this is what I did that solved the problem:

I removed the battery and unplugged the power supply. I then held down the power button for 45 seconds. I then reinstalled the battery and the power supply and pushed the power button and voila it worked. I did have to try it a couple of times before it woorked but all is well now.

Thanks,
you were right. The standard 20 seconds listed on the ACER website didn't do it. Thanks for taking the time to post.

OMG! It worked! :D
My Asus X51R has been refusing to boot for about 3 months now due to "CMOS Battery Low", "CMOS Corrupt" and "CMOS Date/Time Not Set", and I have been unable to do anything due to both the F1 (continue) and F2 (Setup) asked for a BIOS password that I never set.

None of the default BIOS passwords I tried worked, and I had quite honestly given up hope.

But after following your instructions (holding the power button without any power source connected for 45 seconds), it now boots up perfectly.

The F1/F2 alternatives still appeared the first time I booted it, but without password requirements.

You're a lifesaver :)

Wow that totally worked! i was really scared something was wrong with my motherboard
and decided to search the net and i saw your post and tried it for myself.

Thank you ! This solves all my problem, but why does this happen?

i notice alot of Asus laptop's tend to shut down randomly without any notification or explanation and i checked in the ASUS manual under the "common problems" and the first sub heading was about this topic if the asus wont turn on. the advice/solution they gave was to get it repairs because it might be due to HDD & etc.

Thanks a bunch!

I was watching the latest episode of Fringe, when halft way through my Asus just went black. Led power light turned on for 1.5 sec and the fan made a quick noise, but then went back to being dead.

Tried pulling the battery as well, but it was the Power-holdning-for-45sek-trick that made my day.

Odd thing is, when I got back into windows, I had some annoying sound theme on, making sounds when clicking folders and stuff.. I have no idea how that got there. Sounds like a virus though!

I Had the same problem

I took out the battery completely and it works fine, turns out the battery was completely dead, I think it tries to use the power from the battery even though the power cable is plugged in.
my R1F-K018T works fine now.

I had exactly the same problem, the laptop wouldn't turn on at all only the orange charge light came on. I found the problem to be one of the legs on a microchip near the DC input on the Motherboard had burned out. I chipped into the microchip to expose some of the contact, then some clever soldering fixed it. Laptop is working fine now. I would reccomend checking over the motherboard for the same problem, even if you cant fix it yourself if you just take the motherboard to a repair guy it should'nt cost much for him to replace it.

I'd like to say the same thing guys. But my acer aspire 5520g does not power up. :(( Even after the 45 sec reset. :(
It turns on for 3-4 sec, the fan starts up too but after that it reboots, and the fan does not start any more. I'm so disappointed because if it is the motherboard , the replacement will cost more than the laptop itself. :( I was hopping so much that this solution will work. But...no luck for me:( If any other solutions appear please let me know. THX

I have an asus aj6 laptop, it would begin to startup then suddenly stop, so a friend of mine said the small battery that powers the bios may be flat or not contacting well enough, so i dismantled the machine and finally found the battery, removed it, cleaned the contacts and replaced the batt, semi assembled the machine enough to run it and pushed the bios reset button with a small pin, surprise !, she booted up into windows

Cris, did you fix your Acer 5520G? Mine started to misbehave yesterday. The laptop suddenly shut down in the middle of normal web surfing. Tried to restart, it shut down almost immediately again (got to the ACER BIOS splash screen). Tried again in a few minutes and just got the Windows to boot and then it shut down again. Now it refuses to start at all, and keeps doing the loop of death.

When I press the power button, the green light comes on, the fan runs for 2 seconds and HDD & DVD drive spin and then it turns off. It does this in a loop until I disconnect the battery.

The machine is 1 year and 11 months old, is there any possibility of claiming mobo warranty? This seems to be a very common fault when reading the forums...

Dude, LIFE SAVER.

I have an acer aspire one. After I put it in hibernate, it just wouldn't work again. None of the led lights would light up either - not even the battery one.

So I took off the battery and pressed down the on button for about 45 seconds and, just like PeiPaul said, it worked! I've had this laptop for about 2 days, I was about to shoot myself in the head for breaking it so soon!

THANK YOU

I also just wanted to post a thank you !

I had tried holding the power button for 15 sec with the battery out...didnt work.

But removing the battery AND power supply AND holding power for 50 seconds totally fixed it!

Thank you so, so much. Saved my night

First time it ever failed , but luckily I found this forum straight away on my pc and followed the instructions. Took the battery out, disconnected from the power adaptor and held the power button for 45 secs. Then plugged it in again, and it works. Thanks for the info.
I was having a nice evening with a few drinks and waking up in the morning with a dead asus eee would have definitely felt like a bad hang over. Many thanks and Cheers!

Hello! I am also having problems with my Laptop, which is a ASUS M51S. First when I got this problem, that the laptop wouldnt start up, and the lights were there for a few quickly seconds, I was trying abit on my own. Took out the battery and power supply, and inplugged both of them again to try if it worked. Sometimes it did, but most of the time it didnt work. When I saw this topic, I followed the instructions, and after a few tries it worked. Im too afraid to not getting my laptop to start again, so last time I have putted my laptop to "rest-mode". Im sitting here trying to start up the computer now, and I can't get it to start, and I've tried many times. Is there any other ways to start it up? What can be wrong? I dont really have any money at the moment, and Im addicent to my laptop, and using it lot each day, so I do not want to went any money on new computer or repair (unless its the only way).
Please, I need help! Please, help me!
