Hello,
I am using a Dell Inspiron laptop. When I on the laptop, the laptop is able to load initially, when the screen shows the Dell logo. However when it comes to the part where it load at the Windows XP logo screen, the bar below the logo keeps moving showing that it is loading but after 20 minutes, my laptop is still showing the same screen. I cant reach my XP account page. How do I solve this?

Thank you for your reply.

Configuration: Windows XP

I was having a similiar problem with my dell vostro laptop. First I would suggest taking out the battery pack and just plugging it into the wall. If that doesn't work, at the blank screen press f2 on the the keyboard in order to get to the start-up menu. From there you use the arrow keys and enter button go through the choice of tabs and one of the tabs enables you to boot the screen.

Hopes this helps.

Hey!
i have a Dell inspiron 1720 and the same thing happened when i first bought the computer. I would turn it on and there would be the Dell logo but then just a blank black screen. The Dell people told me that something was wrong with the hardware so they gave me a new hardware and now its just fine! Maybe it could be your hardware.

Hi there, i have a dell inspiron laptop and when i improperly shut down my computer and tried to turn it back on.. i got to the screen where i logged on and then it went blank. i shut it off by the switch and when i turned it back on it gave me options with safemode. click safemode and when the log in screen comes up shut down your computer and start it again. This is how i resolved my problem.

I have a Dell Studio laptop. Wouldn't start up, had to go through multiple starts and then it would restore once in a while, and start.... but each time I had to go through this process and it probably took 1/2 hour. I purchased mine from Best Buy and the Geek squad buy knew exactly what the proglem was and fixed it.... the problem, was the drivers for the web cam. He removed about 3 drivers relating to the web cam (chat, etc)... and now it starts up correctly everytime. He said Dell is supposed to have a new driver coming out for the web cam... I did not see this new driver yet... but computer works great, just can't use the web cam (but this is better than a 1/2 hour process to get to windows each time I start it up). Dell knows they have a problem and aren't doing anything about it!!

I also have a dell studio and it will not start up. A message said the startup couldnt be fixed automatically. i also got mine from best buy and haven't even had it for a month. How much did it cost for the geek squad to fix the problem?

Having same issue, wife's 1710 will boot to a pink screen, but in safe mode is black with the "safe mode" words in the corners. No web cam here either.

I have experienced the exactely same problem as you. I took contact with Dell and they sent me a new HDD. After changing the HDD I still experience the same problem. So if anyone advice you to change the c-drive, be aware. You are probably experiencing a error 490, your Start Up Configuration is damaged.

My dell laptop just decided to not startup after the inital blue line would grow longer but very very slow it would go to a blue/black screen with no writting on it except for one _ blinking. I rebooted it over and over removed the battery while still being plugged into the wall and still nothing. After reading some of these post, I kept the battery out rebooted the laptop and before the blue line would start growing id pres on f2 continously. Finally the menu came up. Unlike an other person who said scroll down and you will be able to boot the screen there was no option when i went threw it all.. i looked around for 5 minutes then i press reset to default and press apply and then exit and my computer started up perfectly. There was an error message i did read before i exited and it said i didnt have enough memory so once i was able to get to my picture files i saved them all on a usb card and deleted them off the computer those were recently added pictures. I then shut my computer down and re started it the blue line grew fast this time and all worked perfectly.
