Connecting computer to tv

Hello,i am trying to connect my toshiba laptop to my tv so i can watch dvds on my tv . i have connected the two with s-video and rca composite leads , i get sound but no picture . what am i doing wrong ?

Configuration: Windows XP
Internet Explorer 7.0

Most laptops have a function key that turns on/off the external display. Mine uses Fcn + F8. the key may be marked CRT/LCD
