Hello,

I have Kingston pen drive . I am unable to delete files in it . When i am trying to delete file the message is displayed " write protection" . please help me on it .. In the pen drive i have only PDF printed file , i want to delete it .

there is surely a lock button on the pen and just try to locate it on the pen you should disable it. or else if there isnt that option just try to format it in windows

1!)you just visit the above link and click on picture of pen drive similar to yours.
2)In next page click download driver.
3)then download utility for windows.zip,
4)plugin your pen drive and format or flash your pen drive using that utility.

Refer manual to know details of that utility form same download location.

This utility may work. I have not tested the utility as is don't have i-ball pen drive, but you post whether, you could correct your pen drive or not...

I think this write protection error is due to some virus.
Steps to remove write protection for Transcend users
1) Go to download center of the transcend,here is the link
http://www.transcendusa.com/Support/DLCenter
Type the model no. or part of model number you are looking for.
example: JFV30(all alphabets in Caps )
2) Choose other details like product type etc. and search for your product
3)Then select the product which which is most similar to yours from search results
4)Then download the mFormat utility. You will asked for serial no. if you dont have..enter this no. 1456784523
5) Connect your pen drive
6) run the mformat utility and select full format after full format your write protection will be removed. try twice or thrice if you can't correct at first time.
Thats all...

It worked for me and my friends....

Other pen drive users may visit there vendors site and download any fromat utility present there for your model.

Hey ,
The mformat utility works!!
just download that utility and click on full format .It works great !!!
The only thing is you have to reformat it couple of times, ie, after i reformated it accepted new folders but again said write protected,,,so reformated again,,,it wnt remove ur earlier data as well ,although it says it will....Trust me it works,,,unplug and work again....

according to my understanding the writer was trying to say his/her pendrive doesn't want to delete files that means he/she is able to open the pendrive, but the main fact is that the pendrive doesn't want to delete those files, remember when a pendrive is right protected you cant be able to get inside of it unless if you are from another planet,so that means the pen drive has virus on it and need to be scanned by an updated anti-virus so,remember when you scan your pendrive it might happen that you can loose the whole data that is in pendrive, next time be careful on downloading from internet.

What are you saying that the problem is a simple virus???? It's clear enough that you don´t know how a encryption program works.

Many USB flash memories, like a few HP models or most of Memorex usb memories, have a built-in program called "Vault" which provides strong encryption (blowfish 256 bits which is able to resist even brute-force attacks), a password set with that programs ensures that you won't be able to write in the flash memory unless you have the key.

The whole usb memory is locked and its attributes changed to "read only", so no write possibilities.

This program has an automatic start up application, which tries to reproduce the content of the USB memory, in this case this "utilities" are useless (as the antivirus).

Try to explain again that this is a virus problem....

This link works for my flash drive. I used it to format my Kingston Data Traveler 2Gb which do not have any button for changing write-protection.

My flash have the AntiVir.com and an Autorun.inf which I suspect were the reasons why the properties of my pendrive changed. An antivirus I used in cleaning it could only detect those files but wasn't able to delete or even move it to quaratine since the pendrive would always prompt as a write-protected disk. I even went to the command prompt to manually delete them but it would always fail.

A thumb's up for this low-level reformatter for USB device.

Hi DeAr. The link you provided is working fine. I think in write-protection Mode it does not allow you to write anything on the disk but you can always read. MeAns you first back up your data. Using the link you download the software, After download insert your flash disk, run the software, it will format your drive.
Next you have to clean all the viruses using Norton Antivirus 2009.
Only then it will not coMe bAck. Otherwise there Are high chances that the virus Attacks your flash disk again.

When i was having this problem all i had to do was check my pendrive, and see if the switch on the side was on or not. most pendrive have a sercurity or saftey switch on them. make sure its at off if u want to delet or save anything on to them

You can format your device using ms dos or from window 98 dos prompt

open your device and format it

Hi! whoever posted this link, thank you so much. it solved my problem on write protected usb issue. Mine is a Datatraveller 4G. It was reformated by this application. Now i can use it. hahahah i love you guys!

you have to conect your USB Pen Drive to your computer first... before you open this repair program. Try it...

Come on melney, give us some credit. do you think we wouldnt plug in the device before using the software? We arent morons you know. I have the very same problem where my Transcend 8GB pen drive is giving me an write protected error. Let me specify for everyone's benefit, it has no physical switch on the side, tried all the recovery tools that are there online. When I try to copy files onto it, it says it is write protected. When I try to unhide files on it so that I can get at the Autorun files, it says it is write protected. At the moment when I try to delete files from it also, it says write protected. Tried to format it using MS DOS but it says write protected yet again. The apacer repair v2.9.1.1.zip does not work as I think for flash drives beyond 4GB it does not work and give the error "USB drive not found". IF anyone one has any other ideas or solutions, please share as the transcend customer service is absolute crap.

This is for transcend users

Steps to remove write protection for Transcend users

1) Go to download center of the transcend

http://www.transcendusa.com/Support/DLCenter
Type the model no. or part of model number you are looking for.
example: JFV30(all alphabets in Caps ) like mine
2) Choose other details like product type etc. and search for your product
3)Then select the product which which is most similar to yours from search results
4)Just scroll down to the software section n download the Recovery Tool
5) Connect your pen drive
6) run this sofftware on XP professional machines and not on vista

it really worked fr me - my pendrive was Transcend JFV30 8 GB pendrive

this will not work fr kingston or any othr pendrives

Hai there, after all i've been through to find a way to format my transcend v10 16gb, i've used, chkdsk n try to delete it from DOS, and it said, the disk is write protect, when i try used registry, imean create key in registry, it can only to copy file from flash dik to c:, and still!!!! i cant delete n format it, i also try to plug in n plug out the flash disk and also try almost all kind of software (hp, recovery, etc) and still FAILED!! iam stress full, and FINALLY, i try again to open transcend web and read about ONLINE RECOVERY, just plug in the disk, and doeble klik the aplication, and it works like magic, i hope it can works on all of u, that have same experience like me..
