Msn on my aspire one not working

Hello,
i got my daughters msn was working yesterday on her aspire one, but today the box in right hand corner has gone grey and has a red cross in it. she is so upset that after me finally getting it work for her yesterday she cant go on it again today PLEASE HELP.

Hi Dear.

First of all you can rest assure that the problem is not from you Aspire laptop .. because i am actually using a acer laptop and have Msn working perfectly on it.

Can you please provide me the version of windows that you are using ..i will guide you to download the best version of Messenger for windows.

this may seem really silly but i dont know wot windows i am using,how do find that out? thank you so much for trying to help me iv on this computer all day trying to sort it before she gets home.
