Hey guys OMG please help me out. I would really rather not see a tech if it is possible but if I have to, I guess I have to. Okay well vista is very lame and seems to be all honkey dorey in the beginning and horrible within the year. anyway, I have a HP pavillion dv2000, vista premium, and i have uninstalled the driver, does anyone know how i can fix it? i dont know how to take my driver out so that's not an option, i'm really hoping there's some software i could use to fix it?

thanks in advance guys!

My DVD ROM Drive was messing up in the process of troubleshooting it I somehow either deleted or uninstalled and now don't have a drive to put the main disk in to reload it. all I know is the info the best I can tell on what it was is one of the two below. If you can tell me where I can download the driver from it would be great. Don't see it available on the Hp site This is for an HP Pavillion 7955

it is either: IONDER DVD-RO @ VD-16-1 or
PIONDER DVD-ROM@VD16-1 Please let me know at the email if you can help

Windows Vista – Missing CD/DVD-Rom drive

UPDATE

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11 CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

Apparently it seems that this is an age old fix for even XP systems. If you venture to the registry key above by doing the following steps:

Click on the start menu.
If this is a Vista machine in the search box type in “regedit” without the quotation marks.
Maximize the HKLM and then go ahead and browse until you reach the key listed above.
In the right panel you’ll see something along the lines of “UpperFilter” and “LowerFilter” you want to click on each “filter” key and hit delete. Click yes when it asks to confirm if you wish to delete the key.
Restart Windows.
Let me know if this works.

Thanks Ross, your suggestion made me a happy laptop user again. My CD rom just disappeared on my computer and showed up in the device manage with a yellow exclaimation on it. I have a Toshiba Laptop with a DVD-RAM drive on it. I looked for help from Toshiba's sight and found notheing. I tried reinstalling it and nothing. I knew the drive was good because i could launch a boot disk so I knew it was a windows issue. As soon as I followed your instructions and rebooted it came back on my Laptop. I'm running XP also so it worked for that. Again Thanks for the advice.

Hi there
i have not done anything at all - for some reason i booted my p.c up and they'd just vanished! If you right click on my computer then properties then go to the tab that says hardware - click on that and then device manager. You should now see a list of all your installed driers and such (have a look at your cd-rom / writer drives and they probably have a yellow exclamation mark next to them - if you right click on those and uninstall the drivers and re-boot your p.c windows will automatically detect your drivers as it did with me - however when i went back into the device manager again they were still the same and it tells me my drivers are installed correctly but windows cannot detect my hardware its saying no device found! Sorry i can't help any more but mine is still in the same state?

Kind regards
Matt

Hi - Had the exact same problem with Cd/DVD drive disappearing.. I have an Acer Aspire 5100 notebook, Windows Vista. Here's what I did and it successfully restored my CD/DVD drive. Good luck. Hope this works for you too.
Follow these steps:

Remove all floppy disks, CDs, and DVDs from your computer, and then restart your computer.

Click the Start button , click the arrow next to the Lock button , and then click Restart.

Do one of the following:

If your computer has a single operating system installed, repeatedly press the F8 key as your computer restarts. You need to press F8 before the Windows logo appears. If the Windows logo appears, you will need to try again.

If your computer has more than one operating system, use the arrow keys to highlight the operating system you want to start, and then press F8.

On the Advanced Boot Options screen, use the arrow keys to highlight Last Known Good Configuration, and then press ENTER.

If your computer has more than one operating system installed, use the arrow keys to highlight the operating system that you want to start by using Last Known Good Configuration, and then press ENTER. Windows will then resume starting normally.

Hiya, Ive been looking around different websites for a driver download for my e-system laptop as i accidently uninstalled it,
I found this on another help forum website so thought i might as well share it :

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If your problem is non-detection, ie: drive is not listed in "My Computer", please read post #24 in this thread: http://forums.driverguide.com/showth...t=21669&page=4

It contains instructions on the delete the upper and lower filters fix

And here's another method that will do this automatically for you if you're afraid to edit the registry manually.

Code:
http://forums.driverguide.com/showthread.php?t=22131
(automatic fix, post #7, download file: CdGone.zip)

Alternately, download and install the DVD fix from the Web site below.

http://www.dougknox.com/xp/scripts/xp_cd_dvd_fix.vbs

After performing this registry fix, just reboot the pc. Now your drive should be visible in My Computer and work properly.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I just downloaded and installed the DVD fix, restarted my computer and it all worked like new :)
It might not work for other computers but its worth a try! Because you can always download it then delete it again if it doesn't work,
Alice

Thank you all. Ross' solution worked for me and I will keep a hard copy of this discussion in my files in case this problem reoccurs. I have a question though. What is the cause of the problem? Is it a consequence of software installation? Everything was working fine (I think) until I installed itunes and some other stuff related to an MP3 player I just purchased.

With DVD/CD-ROM drives in Windows XP or Vista

I was fixing a computer the other day and ran across the following error in Device Manager on the CD-ROM drive.

"Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)"

Because of this error, the drive did not show up in My Computer and the customer was unable to burn CDs or read any CDs.

I uninstalled the drive from Device Manager, rebooted the computer, and the problem remained, so obviously it appeared to be a registry issue that I would have to solve. If you are receiving this Code 39 error and your CD or DVD drive is missing and has a yellow exclamation mark in Device Manager, I hope this information is useful.

To solve this Code 39 error, follow these instructions:

NOTE: After removing these registry keys and rebooting, it may be necessary to reinstall any CD or DVD recording applications.

1) Close all open programs

2) Click on Start, Run, and type REGEDIT and press Enter

3) Click on the plus signs (+) next to the following folders

* HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
* SYSTEM
* CurrentControlSet
* Control
* Class
* {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

4) This folder is the DVD/CD-ROM Drive Class Description in the registry. Look for any of the following names in the right hand column.

* UpperFilters
* LowerFilters
* UpperFilters.bak
* LowerFilters.bak

5) If any of the above keys shown in step 4 are listed, right-click on them and choose Delete

6) After deleting the keys, close the Registry Editor

7) Reboot
your computer

8) Open My Computer and check to see if your CD or DVD drives have returned. You may also want to open Device Manager and verify that the yellow exclamation and error code on the CD or DVD drive is gone

Hi Matt - i tried to do what u said. I typed in REGEDIT and pressed enter but all i get is an error message saying: C:\ Windows\ systems32\ REGEDIT.com is not a valid Win32 application.

Any ideas of what to do?

Basically what happened is that my DVD drive (F:) disappeared, and when i put in a DVD nothing happens. So i uninstalled my DVD drive from the Device Manager hoping that that would change something and i would be able to reinstall it somehow but that changed nothing and now i have no idea what my next move is.

If u can help in any way i would really appreciate it!

Thanks!

- Matt

I had the same problem with me new lap top HP dv4- 1125nr and it is not even older than 6 months. I watch DVDs on it and last night I found out the lap top would not recognize the DVD at ALL. I thought the DVD was corrupted so I waited until today February 27, 2009 to check it on my DVD player on my flat screen TV. It worked so I knew something was wrong on lap top.
Anyways, I try to update the software and did not work, I deleted the DVD program via Device Manager. I restarted the computer and did not recognize the DVD either.
Finally, I tried to Start> Run> Regedit and look for the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE> SYSTEM>CurrentControlSet>Control>Class once class is open look for the definition on the right side that has DVD/CD-ROM drives on the right side once you see it look for Upperfilter or Lowerfilter.
I found UPPERFILTER only. Then, I deleted it and Restarted the computer.
NOTE: make a backup in case to be safe. I personally did not back up anything since you usually have restore points for any mistake you may make on your computer, but you cannot go wrong by backing it up.
As soon as I inserted the DVD the Lap top recognized the Movie.

Try it I hope it works, I hate to see lap tops giving trouble specially when new.
