Amd pressesor troubles!!

Hello,
I recently got a toshiba satalite 300d-242 laptop with an amd sempron si-42 prossesor. my question is: can i upgrade the prossesor to a dual core or something more powerfull? if not any advice on getting the most out of this one welcome ie would it run faster with a 64 bit o/s i have vista 34 bit now but i am considering replacing it with xp x64 bit.. would this help?

It is not advisable to try to upgrade the processor in a laptop. You may find that it is soldered to the motherboard.

Vista 64 will not speed-up your processing - it will only effect programs like video editing that are designed to use extra memory (> 4 GB). I assume the laptop is limited to 4 GB or less of memory.

Thanks for the advice.. I will be using q base to write music; do you think a 64 bit o/s will help to run the program more smoothly?
