| 2 Gail, on Jun 19, 2008 11:03:34 pm BSTHello,
Please help. My dad has windows vista and At&t highspeed internet. For some unknown reason, he can not connect to the internet. the only way to connect is if he plays solitaire for a while and then try's to connect and sometimes it will. All of the lights on the modem are on and green. This problem happened a few months ago and he has done nothing new or unplugged anything. 5 Calls to At&t tech support have amounted to nothing. When they check the ip address on the computer it does not match the one physically on the modem. They make no changes here. AFter they have me follow a few instructions we restart the computer and we can log on to the internet. Then the next day the same problem occurs and the only way to log on is for my dad to actually play solitare or another game and then try. If he just turned on the computer and tried to get on the internet it will say internet explorer can not connect to server. Why does this happen from turning on the computer and why does it work if my dad plays solitare for a while. this makes no sense, sounds like a problem from the service provider. Do you please have any advice? this is wierd. Reply to Gail | 3 neil, on Jul 2, 2008 10:22:20 am BSTGail,
HI,
If you've got this sorted don't worry about replying.
Have you tried opening a cmd window and checking how long it takes to get an ID address with ipconfig command.
Sounds like its just taking extra long to get allocated an IP address and get the network connection sorted out.

It could be trying to work but still faulty. Not sure it will fix the problem, bit this would be my first step and will cause no damage at all to the computer. Go to the modem manufacturer site and type in the model or serial number and make sure you select the driver for you operating system. Reply to dusty.techstudentMCP,NET+ |

| 52 littlegogi, on Oct 19, 2008 6:57:23 am BSTI am having the same problem with AT&T after I recently purchased an emachine with Windows Vista. I did not want Windows Vista. I have heard nothing good about Windows Vista; but, I was informed the emachine package I was buying had Windows Vista and there was nothing I could do about that fact except buy a more expensive computer such as Dell.
AT&T used to provide 24-hour phone service for their internet customers. I have called the number on my monthly bill three times in the last 24 hours, and cannot get anyone to answer. AT&T service calls are even routed to another country! Even if I have problems with my phone, there is no local AT&T service provider.
Yesterday, I contacted a local Broadband provider, and will be changing my phone service and internet service from AT&T as of Friday. I am within two miles of this provider, and if they don't respond to my calls, I can go to their office. AT&T doesn't even have an office in my city--and I live in a large metropolitan city!
I am a 67-year-old woman who needs all the help I can get when I am having problems with my computer. AT&T used to help me; but, not now. Reply to littlegogi |

yhen restart the system and try to connect the internet.
