Memory issue

Hello,
I have installed a 2G of Ram in a gateway mx6956 1G each but it only recognizes 1G Can somebody tellme Why?

are the 2 ram modules of the same frequency?

If u mean the memory rams yeah i have 2, DDR2 1G each 667mhz for pc 5300 and pc 4200
