Recently replaced my old laptop operating on Windows Vista to a new laptop operating Windows 8.1

All my backup files are on my Samsung HX-DU010EC/GB portable hard drive. I need to load a driver/s to enable me to retrieve files that are important to me and then to format the same portable hard drive to do my back ups on it.

Can anybody help Please?

I don't understand the external drive should work without any special drivers. Do you have a non-standard backup program?

I bought the above external hard drive for my previous laptop which haf Windows Vista. Now my new laptop has Windows 8 and when I connect the external hard drice to download a file . . I see it as an accessory and when I click on it it disappears . . I understood it to be the driver that xannot open it.
