Have you tried other memory cards with your laptop to see if they work OK?
I'd suggest that you take a look if the card is recognized in Disk Management, when you connect it to your laptop and if it is, try to assign it a new letter to see if it's recognized in Windows Explorer after that, so that you can access your files. You could also try reinstalling the card reader's drivers to see if that fixes the issue.
