My iPod won't turn on or charge

I had misplaced my iPod Touch (6th gen I think) in my friend's car, and it's been missing for almost 2-3 months. I found it, but now it is not showing any signs of charging or turning on. The battery indicator does not appear, I tried holding both the home button and power button, but nothing, and it's been charging for about 2 hours since I posted this.

It might take hours to charge. Did it finally work?
