My system is'nt able to detect my hard disk SEAGATE 160GB . . i've tried it on many other system too, but, no system can detect it . . it contains about 50GB of very important documents (pictures, family videos etc.) ... is there anyone who could help me recover these files from my damaged hard disk ... i'm willing to pay anyone who can help me .. Please guys . HELP

Hi, Valtea,

In general, you should do what Ambucias suggested. Your drive may not be damaged. Try to check with another USB cable (I presume this is an external drive). Is the drive visible in BIOS? If it is, it may be an indicator that you may be facing some software issues. Visit the manufacturer's web site for some updates.

No Sir, it is not an external hard disk . i did exactly as Ambucias instructed, but, it is still not working ... is there any other way ????

I'm sorry, I did not understand what type of HDD we are talking about. Since it is an internal HDD, check if it is visible in BIOS.
In general, if the drive is not visible in many systems, I would say that the drive may have failed. If it is damaged, you may need the assistance of a Data Recovery Company. Check the HDD manufacturer's web page for additional information about which companies to contact. This may be important if the drive is still under warranty.

After plugging in the device, go to device manager (In run type "devmgmt.msc") In Device manager go to "Universal serial bus controllers" It should list the storage devices that you have connected to your PC. Right click and then click "Uninstall. Remove the USB drive and restart your system.
Try connecting the device again.
