Cant install vista to new hard drive

Hi i have a dell 530 ....the 320gb hd failed recently so i got myself a new 1tb seagate hd sata but when trying to install the op system ...i get to the part where it asks where do you want to install windows ....there is a warning saying that windows cannot be installed to this hd space .....windows must be installed to a partition formated as ntfs ? How do i do this with no op system .? Any and all help is much appreciated ...

Also at this part in installation there is an option to format but when i try it comes back with failed to format error 0x80004005 ???

Hi there,

You should be able to format the drive during the OS installation. Are you connecting the drive with the SATA connection or you are using a SATA to USB cable? I would say that you are facing some Windows related issue. Check the link below for some tips from the Microsoft community. If I were you, I would try to format the drive on another PC and try again.
