Toshiba Canvio 3.0 external hard disk drive not working suddenly

Hi,
I bought a Toshiba Canvio 3.0 external Hard Drive 3 months back.. it was working fine.. But since yesterday,suddenly,the device can't be detected..It doesn't show up in 'My Computer' and makes sounds for a while and then the sound stops..The device isn't listed under 'Disk Management' either,however,it is visible under the 'Safely Remove Hardware and Eject Media' list.. I tried to uninstall the device but it didn't help.. I tried troubleshooting as well,and no problem was detected.
Please help! I have no idea what went wrong with the device

Sounds like the hard drive is broken. External hard drives are very susceptible to shock. Even a slight jolt while they are running can damage the drive.
