Sims 3 (not responding)

Hello,
i have been paying the sims 3 game for a while now and it has been working fine, it wasnt just untill this morning when i decided to put the expansion pack (the sims 3 town life stuff) onto my computer as soon as i went through the process of installing it i clicked back onto the sims 3 game launcher, (it took awhile to load) and then i clicked the big play button and then up the top of the sims 3 launcher menu my computer said - the sims 3 launcher (not responding) the only option i got to get out of this was to close the program or to wait for the program to respond (which eventually would lead to the program closing anyway)

if anyone knows a way of fixing this could u please help me!!!
