I am trying to do a system restore on my Sony VAIO laptop. I have hit f10, which takes me to the factory page, but will not allow me to select check hardware or next, but I can move to the Sony end user licence agreement section by hitting enter. It won't allow me to go further. Can anyone suggest what else I can try. Iive done f8 which doesn't give me restore options.

Thanks

I have son the system restore after 3 attempts. It has worked, but I am having a blank screen, with the following error message.
Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:
<windows root >\system32\ntoskrnl.exe.
Please re-install a copy of the above file.

I was hoping that if I just inserted a windows xp disc it would solve the problem. But I am just getting a disc read error, press Ctrl, went delete to restart.

Any ideas what else I should do from here. Maybe the xp disc is no good. Should I just buy a new system disc.
