Nothing showing on screen

Hello, i just inherited a Macintosh Powerbook 140. Had it on charge the whole evening and put it on this am. It starts up but nothing appears on the screen. I can hear it running in the background but screen stays blank. Set the contract and brightness but im still seeing nothing. This powerbook has worked in the past. There are no F-keys on the keyboard so i dont know how to F12? Has anyone got any suggestions on how i can get it to work... Thanks...

I am not a mac user, http://www.nylaptopparts.com/diagnose-lcd-screen.html would help you if you couldnt see a pc screen though
