Hi jen855,
Please try the below mentioned steps and reply with results:
1. Check if the "Thick Border" appears on Dell Logo and in BIOS. If "Thick Border" is seen on dell Logo and in BIOS, follow Outside OS troubleshooting below, else follow Within OS troubleshooting.
Outside OS Troubleshooting
1. Check with a known good external monitor. If known good monitor works fine, the problem is with the LCD and needs to be replaced. Else, follow next steps.
2. Run "Dell 32-bit Diagnostics" on video, click here to find steps on "How to Run the Dell 32-bit Diagnostics Utility".
3. If LCD BIST fails, the LCD needs to be replaced. The test will return an error code if it fails, add the error code in your reply. If the test passes follow Inside OS Troubleshooting.
Inside OS Troubleshooting
1. Adjust the video resolution to Optimum/Maximum resolution as suggested in the OSD Menu.
2. Download the updated video driver and BIOS. Uninstall video driver and then install the updated Video driver and BIOS.
Note: Plug your computer to a good, working UPS before you update the BIOS. If you experience a loss of AC power or a significant voltage sag/spike during the BIOS flash, you will either have to buy a new BIOS chip or buy a new motherboard.
