Hello,
Windows XP is nice but Microsoft will no longer support it.
I would advise to stay away from Vista and install Windows 8 which seems to have good reviews.
As for antivirus, I also suggest that you never consider Norton Symantec product which full of bugs, security leaks and little support unless you pay for it. I strongly recommend F-Secure or Kaspersky, some would say AVG.
