Laptop screen not lighting when its working

Hi
Try this:
Turn off the machine by pressing and holding the power button.
Remove the battery and cable.
Press and hold the power button for 58 seconds
Replug and start.
If the problem persist, try an external monitor. (Everybody has a spare monitor in the basement or attic somewhere.)
If you get an image, it's a screen problem, if you don't it's a video card problem.
