there are several things you can do-
1take battery out-depress power button 4 30 secs put back in and try
2 tap fan in back and use air gun too clean it out
3 create new user acct
4 go 2 control panel power option advance tab uncheck for password when computer on stand by
50 if u have outlook-if u have hook in options take it out\
6 if u have a .bet file with -f in shut down in start up c:\documents and setup should be empty -also try running ms config to edit your auto run

sorry to be brief but the list goes on and on,,,

when you start the laptop keep pressing F8
a boot menu will appear choose safe mode with command prompt
  • Boot up Windows XP into Command Prompt
  • When at the desktop, click Start > Run
  • Type regedit and click OK
  • In regedit, browse to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon
  • In the right pane, double click on Shell
  • Enter the following: explorer.exe
  • Click OK
  • In the right pane again, double click UserInit
  • Enter the following (assuming your hard disk is c:): c:\windows\system32\userinit.exe
  • Click OK
  • Exit Regedit
  • Restart your computer and try logging in
