Hello,
Thanks in advance for the help. I had the unmountable boot problem...but just got a new HD and I'm trying to install it. it's a seagate 160gp SATA. I have 2 dvdrom drives...one isnt working but my dvd-rw is. i disconnected them both and hooked up just the one that works. I put in my windows xp service pack 2 disk from dell but get the "need ASMS" file or whatever. I tried typing the d:/i386 fix but that didn't work. I'm at my wit's end. Brand new HD....even put all BIOS settings under maintenance to default factory settings. since I took a rom drive off do i need to change something? please help me out.

Configuration: win xp...dell not on comp at the moment but ask if u need specs

You are attempting to install Windows XP on a new SATA drive ? XP does not have native mode SATA drivers installed and can't see the drive to start the install. Search this forum for SATA problems. You will find a number of solutions from BIOS settings to "slipstreaming" SATA drivers onto the Windows XP disk. Good Luck
