New screen replacemetn

Hello,
My old laptop screen was stepped on and it was cracked. It still would function but difficult to see. I installed a new screen and in the process I pulled a wire out of a connector and found it only went to the web cam. I dont need the web cam. Is it needed because now I only get a white screen.
