Ps3 won't work on hdmi tv through my hd cable

Hello,

i play my ps3 in hd in my room, but when i try to play it on the downstairs tv the screen is just blue. i can get my laptop on the tv via my hd cable but not my ps3. the tv is hd ready & i use the same hd cable for laptop & ps3 but for some reason the ps3 won't work . please help.
