5.1 sound from laptop throught tv

Could someone tell me how to get 5.1 sound from a laptop trought tv to hometheather. It works 2.1 but it would ne more enoyable with 5.1. I got samsung R522 laptop and HDMI cable to tv and optical cable from tv to hometeather for the sound. It works for ps3 so why it doesn't work for a laptop?

your laptop probably only has a 2.1 sound card installed.
you can get usb 5.1 sound cards that plug into your laptop, then you connect the card to your tv using the correct cables

something along the lines of this or similar. do a google of 5.1 usb sound .......
