Internet Connection Problems

I got a brand new dell inspiron laptop today, but it won't allow me to connect to my wireless router. I have the option, and can try one of two passwords, both of which the laptop accepts, but then it loads for a moment and syyas "Failed to connect"

Any tips for a computer illiterate person?

Make sure you are CasE SenSiTIvE with the password. And that you picked the right network. Also, try to connect to an unsecured network (one without a password) and if it cannot connect to that, then there is a problem with your laptop. You could bring it back and show them how it cannot connect to the internet and they should replace the parts it if you bought it fairly recently.
