Hey there,

in your My Network places, right click on the local area network icon select properties, internet protocol(tcp/ip) and finally click on ip address and assign an IP like 192.168.0.1 and the subnet mask to 255.255.255.0.

repeat the same procedure with the other computer but assign another IP address like 192.168.0.2. the subnet mask stays the same.

after wards open command prompt and then type in this command from any one of the two coputers :

ping 192.168.0.1

you should get some some results and if no packets are lost then the connection is sucessful.

hope it helps you

I think u had join ur Desktop n Laptop directly with CAT5 cable. So just make Local Area connection n assign
same IP address to both comps but d last digit will be changed. for eg 1st pc- 192.168.1.1n 2nd pc- 192.168.1.2
& change the name of both pc's ( right click on my comp->properties->computername n click on change button)
