External hard drive

Hello,
I recently purchased a 1.0 terabyte seagate external usb 2.0 HD. The drive works fine and fully viewable in winxp (sp3). When I go to boot, I cannot not get past the POST. I have looked into the bios settings with no luck. I was using WD my book with no problem prior to this. Got any ideas, it's a pain unplugging and plugging in the drive.
