Just wanted to know if its possible to get back the data on a formatted hard drive and if yes how can it be done ?

Yes, it's possible. You need to use a third party software.

Google "data recovery from formatted hard disk", you will get a few million results, but there's a few on the first page that aren't very expensive (50-70USD) and have great reviews.
