Reading internal laptop drive via IDE Adaptor

Hi, my Thinkpad a21p died and I am trying to recover the data on the HD. I purchased an IDE HDD USB Adapter to connect the HD to either of my other laptops (Thinkpad and Dell) via USB. When I connect the HD light comes on, I can feel/hear the HD spinning and I can see the drive however when I try to access it I get the following message:

The disk in drive F is not formatted

Hint:
Maybe the disk is already formatted but not readable due to encryption state.
Please check the encryption state.

When I check properties of the disk it says Local and Raw. I think the problem is that the USB port does not recognize the drive as NTFS. Anyone have any ideas on how to get around this? Software was not provided with the adapter. I've googled this issue but have gotten no useful information.

hi there,

your hard disk before having this issue had password for logon?

if yes then it is difficult to get access to it

but after formatting it you can use it as removable storage device

and recover the files by using recovery software
