No sound from my desktop speakers

Hello,

I recently got a new computer. Internal speakers in my desktop computer are not playing back any sound. what could be the problem?

Configuration: Windows XP Internet Explorer 7.0

Are you sure that you have "internal speakers" desktops don't normally come with internal speakers.
