I have tried everything I know. HELP!!!

Hello,
I have tried it all. I have started windows vista on my dell inspiron 1545 in every mode possible (safe, regular, and repair). It keeps showing the windows insignia and then goes to a black screen. I have run diagnostics from hard drive and dvd but it never seems to finish. It just keeps running for hours. What do i do???
