Trouble downloading messenger

Hello,
I uninstalled my messenger and now when I try to install it again it says I already have it and it won't let me install it again. Does anyone know what to do to install my messenger again. Please help me

Configuration: Windows XP
Firefox 3.0.10

you need to uninstall the previous version completely

then reinstall it
