Vista loads to a black screen

Hello,
ok so everytime i turn my computer on it loads all the way to the log in screen, i sign in and it appears to be starting up and then i get that little windows icon in the center of my monitor, then everything just goes black, but i can still use my mouse. I turn it off and try starting it in safe mode and all seems well till it trys to boot up my desktop then everything just goes black, but i have the "safe mode" in the 4 corners of my screen and can still use my mouse. PLEASE HELP!!!!!

I am using a Toshiba Satellite X205-9800 w/Vista

Configuration: Windows XP
Internet Explorer 7.0

I hate the same exact problem yesterday and I also run with Vista. Not sure if this helps but I ran my computer in safe mode and did a virus scan. This worked well for me, hope it helps.
