Connection two computers

Hello,
I have two computers with the same Ip address, but I cannot connect one computer to the other. I purchased a belkin connection cable but it works with windows vista and not windows xp. is there some other way I can get these computers to work without having to purchase additional items.

Configuration: Windows XP
Firefox 3.0
