Hi,

you need to go to the BIOS and then set the boot order to boot from CD first.

then you need to enter the enter the Installation CD and then restart the system.

press any key when prompted and the installation will begin.

then you need to follow the wizard.

You should put your installation cd, then erase the linux os from your HDD!

It might be best to install Xp alongside linux at least until you manage to finish setting Xp up. Note that Windows is normally pre-installed by a team of experts and usually has a whole slew of extra programs added which are not in the standard Xp installer.

This guide helps with any linux although it specifies Ubuntu
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WindowsDualBoot

Also it might be worth giving your version of linux a fair go. It does take some getting used to but you are going to see linux appearing more and more often. Again the guide is written for Ubuntu but most version of linux work in much the same way, just sometimes a couple of names might be a bit different
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SwitchingToUbuntu/FromWindows
Also support for Xp is drying up especially with the arrival of Win7

Also if you have specific issues it might be worth posting each of them as a separate question in this general linux forum

Good luck and regards from
Tom :)
