I have a contact in whatsapp list. when I open this contact in whatsapp I see a phone icon on top right. If I click I am suppossed to connect with the contact with whom I can voice chat. But in the screen I find a mic icon at bottom which is overdrawn with a cross line(like </>). what does it mean. This happens in all whatsapp contcts. does it mean I cannot hear the voice or is it only for recording the chat. How to remove the cross. I am confused, a super senior citizen. thanks --from Chennai, India

Hello, you should be able to call using the phone symbol. As for the microphone being crossed out... I'm not sure. You can try clicking on it and see what happens. Normally you should be able to use it to record voice messages. It may be that you haven't allowed WhatsApp access to your microphone in the WhatsApp settings. So you could check your settings, and or WhatsApp settings to see what permissions you have allowed to the app.

thank you. Unfortunately if I want to experiments I have to make a voice chat to somebody. I cannot experiment without distrubing somebody. In the crossed mic when I tapped it the crossing does not disappear. Nowhere I have disallowed my voice chat to mic. But as long as my voice chat is successful it does matter if the voice is not recorded. This sscreen came up only today not before.
