The best way to remove distortion from audio is to have the program's volume low (the audio source) and your computer volume to be higher. You may also need to increase the bitrate at which the audio is recorded.

192 kbit/s is as low as you want to go (nowadays). Anything below this and you increase the potential for nasty distortion.
