YouTube use a Flash Video format that enables highly-compressed streaming video to effectively play in most browsers. However, the inconvenience with this type of format is that you will not be able to download it easily.
I usually use a streaming video recorder to download videos from youtube or any other online streaming video sites.

Actually, there are many softwares online that can be used to download the streaming videos to your computer, streaming video recorder is the one I’ve tested and works great.

Hi.. there's a battle going on between YouTube and the company that makes the YouTube downloader. YouTube have disabled the downloader tool, but now the company has updated it so it works again. You can read about it on my blog (there are longer articles in previous posts)

I've been trying to download videos from Youtube and have been having a lot of problems: The first couple times that I tried it said file too large. Now for some reason I can't even get the download button to show up. Instead I get an error button in its place. I've tried on 4 different computers and get the same error button. Anyone have any ideas?

YouTube has deliberately disabled the downloader tool. I've written about it on my blog, feel free to read all the details; http://www.centreforjournalism.co.uk/blogs/kersh-media
Basically YouTube is trying to monetize its enormous video content library so it's starting to charge 99 cents per download. Part of the strategy is to prevent people using the free downloader tools. That's why it's not working. There are several alternative tools which still work.
