E3 Confirms Appearance of Smash Bros. for Wii U, 3DS
Nintendo to unveil a new Mario game at the Electronic Entertainment Expo.
The Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) has confirmed that Nintendo's newest "Smash Bros." for Wii U and 3DS will be present. This is great news for fans of Smash Bros., since last year there had been no such appearance at E3. Masahiro Sakurai, the Smash Bros. director, announced about the debut on Twitter. The excitement created by this new game might be what Nintendo needs right now, particularly after a season of weak sales for the Wii U. Some media analysts believe that the gaming crowd is drifting more towards playing games on smartphones and tablets as opposed to game systems, however competing systems such as the Xbox and Playstation have been performing well.
Perhaps in an attempt to boost popularity for the Wii U, recently updates allowed gamers to access classic Nintendo games through the new console. Other potential updates for the system are rumored to include new games that allow for inter-console connectivity and further customization for players. While some have discussed the possibility of users to create their own characters to play in the Smash Bros. series, the company is very cautious about introducing non-Nintendo characters into their classic games. Older games are re-surfacing in other manners as well; the popular Zelda game "The Wind Waker" was recently released in HD for the Wii U. E3 will be an important time for Wii U's future, as other games for the system such as the new "Mario Kart" will also have a debut.
