Hey guys with no messenger, apparently it's not a computer or software problem. I live in Puerto Rico and all my friends including myself are witnessing the same problem. It appears to be a technical problem at Windows Live. The best thing to do is send an E-Mail referring to the problem and wait it out, hopefully this won't take so long to fix, if it doesn't fix all Windows Live users would have to switch to a different Messenger service.

Thank You for you time.
Hopefully this can be fixed.

Sorry for the late reply...
Yes I solved it.Here's what you'll have to do:
Start-Run-regedit-search the key HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\AppID\{380689D0-AFAA-47E6-B80E-A33436FE314B} and delete it,and then reboot your pc and try to log on again,it should work.

Fantastic elf11, deleting that key did just the job. Cheers very much! That'd been annoying me for a while, previously I had to restart each time MSN acted up with the non-signing in, but deleting this key allows login no problem. Restarting MSN seems to be all that's required.

Anybody worried about deleting the key, you can make a backup of it by right clicking on the file and using 'Export' to save a copy of it to somewhere in your docs. Should the file be required again, opening the backup will restore the old key.

This may work...
Maybe one of this is the problem and below you've got the solution for them:
The system clock or date may be set incorrectly.
The Dynamic Link Library (DLL) softpub.dll, may not be registered on the system.
Internet Explorer may be using an invalid proxy server.
Zone Alarm is running.

Solution:
- Double click on the clock in the taskbar and make sure the system clock is set correctly.
- Disable Zone Alarm
- Register softpub.dll using the regsvr32.exe tool.Click Start, and then click Run.
- In the Open box, type regsvr32 softpub.dll and then click OK.
- Do the same for the following regsvr32 wintrust.dll, regsvr32 initpki.dll, regsvr32 MSXML3.dll.
- Restart Windows Live Messenger.

I'm also having these problems, however i can sign in on normal 'windows messenger' and i can also sign in on another account and it doesn't seem to experience the same problem as my dominant account. Strange hey. E-mail me if anyone knows.

I am experiencing exactly the same behavior. I can sign into a different account. I can sign into this account on another computer with the old version. If I reboot my computer, then I can sign in again. I would like to not have to reboot my computer in order to sign in. I serached for the registry entry and do not see it in regedit.

Open task manager and go to Processes. From there, go to the bottom and scroll right (i'm avoiding typing file names) and look for all the Windows Live files. highlight and end process. i ended them all and restarted them and it worked. "live communications platform" i think was key. i just ended them all to ensure i was killing any hanging process. hope this helps someone.

I had the very same error. Solved by manually deleting temp/cache files from
C:\Users\%UserName%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Live Contacts\%Email%
C:\Users\%UserName%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Messenger\%Email%
