Windows xp Home Edition won't start

Hello,

Received the following message when I tried to start my windows 'dual booted' XP Home edition.: "Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: <windows root> \system32\hal.dll "

How do I Recover the file?

Any help will be greatly appreciated
