Hello,
I replaced a Western Digital 80 GB hard drive with a new Western Digital 320 GB hard drive and cloned the old hard drive onto the new hard drive using Acronis True Image 11. When starting the new hard drive, I get the message "Read disk error. Press contol-alt-delete to start". I sometimes have to press contol-alt- delete two or three times before it will boot up. I have Windows XP home edition, Intel desktop board D865GBF, Intel 2.40 GHz 800 MHz processor and 1024 MB DDR400 RAM.

Is there anything I can do to solve this problem?

Configuration: Windows XP Internet Explorer 8.0

I have absolutely no idea what nero has to do with it. I think there has been a crossed posting somewhere. I think I mentioned cd burning in another issue to another poster. so I have no idea why this has got in with your problem.

Sounds like your hard drive is failing or is corrupt, you need to see if you run a chkdsk /r command or error-checking tool from the drive properties on your hard drive, I have the same issue, I removed the hard drive from my desktop workstation and connected via SATA/usb cable to my laptop. Fortunately I split up my drive into two partitions, the first partition has the windows xp files and some programs but it looks to be corrupt, I see most folders and files but certain folders i can not access such as the Windows and Documents and Settings folders. In 'my computer', I right clicked on the drive and clicked properties, select the Tools tab and run the Error-Checking program, be sure to select both options: Automatically fix file system errors & Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors, unfortunately the program freezes on my first partition, but the program ran ok on my second partition and did find some errors. My hard is a Maxtor DiamondMax 10 300GB SATA150 HDD; I downloaded from the Maxtor website their utilities SeaTools and MaxBlast but when I run SeaTools diagnostic on my laptop it does not allow me to test the drive through the usb cable, maybe it needs to be done as a direct connection back on my desktop workstation or maybe the first partition is just corrupt. My next step is to reconnect the drive back to my desktop and boot up using my Windows CD and get into the Windows Recovery Console to see if I can chsdsk or fix the boot sector, I read about another type of Linux boot CD/DVD called Knoppix and there is Hiren's Boot CD http://www.hiren.info/pages/bootcd ; I am going to try some of these utilities to see if I can fix either the boot or bad sectors. Also look in Google for info on fixboot and fixmbr commands. I also remember reading instructions online somewhere that you can fix your Windows XP installation in the Recovery Console and not lose all of your installed programs and documents. Last resort is to run a data recovery program such as SpinRite and recover the files that I can not access on the first partition, then reinstall XP but I think I will do this on a new hard drive, I think this old drive is failing and luckily I can still read some of it.
